Shaving Brush
An emerging mayfly pattern that works anytime after the first dun hatch of the season. A very versatile fly as it has the advantage of a subtle presentation below the surface of the water, but is very easy to see with upright deer hair post. It is a favourite fly to use at the start of the day when searching lake edges or windlanes. Also very effective on the rivers when mayfly and caddis are hatching. Size 12.

Possum Emerger
As a dry fly, this fly has probably caught more fish in Tasmania than any other fly. Given its subtle and natural appearance and low profile when on the water, it could be mistaken for a variety of hatching insects, and fish will rarely refuse a chance to inhale it! Most effective when mayfly are around, it can be fished singularly or as a point fly in team on both lakes and rivers. Size 14.

Parachute Dun
An imitative dun pattern primarily used when mayfly duns are actively hatching and can be seen on the surface of the water. It is also a great fly to fish in a team of dry flies as a top or middle dropper. An essential fly for both lake and river dry fly fishing. Size 14.

Black and Red Streamer
Red and black has long been a great colour combination for catching trout. This wet fly is deadly early and late in the season when fish are targeting bait fish around the lakes. It is a fantastic point fly in a team of loch style wets, or retrieved in a stop start motion along weedy or rocky shorelines. Size 10.

Fiery Brown Sedge Hopper
Our best ‘all round’ dry fly for when the fish are looking up. The brown body is suggestive of a mayfly, while the hopper legs are more imitative of a terrestrial insect. If the fish are rising (or you think they should be looking up) but you are not sure what they are feeding on, this fly will bring them up. Size 10.

Tassie Devil Nymph
A go to river nymph for euro nymphing or nymph under dry fishing when you are exploring new water or not sure what to tie on. The jig hook allows the fly to be fished very close to the river bed (where the fish will be sitting) without getting snagged. The combination of the rose pink bead, flashy body and orange tag make it incredibly enticing to the fish as it comes down the river. Size 14, 3mm tungsten bead.

Mkii Woolly Bugger
This is the only wet fly you need early in the season around flood lake margins when fish are in close hunting bait fish and frogs. It is light enough to give a slower sink rate, but still has a bulky profile to move water and attract fish. Fish will often be seen 'bow waving' towards this fly, so be prepared for aggressive takes. Size 8.

Fuzzle Bugger
Our top pick for an unweighted wet fly option. The brushed dubbing gives the fly extra movement and pushes more water, drawing more fish in. Generally used as a top dropper with a bead head fly on the point, it has a great flashy action and sits high in the water. When fish are eating this fly, you may as well not have anything else on. Size 10.

Copper Bead Pheasant Tail Nymph
The Pheasant Tail Nymph is one of the most reliable river nymphs you can have. It is a very natural pattern with a copper bead and a small orange collar to separate itself from the naturals in the river. Blue Damsel
Trout feeding on damsel flies are renowned as being extremely difficult to fool, but not for this fly!
