Tasmania's Central Highlands is one of the most significant wild trout fisheries in the southern hemisphere.
The plateau country above 700 metres holds hundreds of natural lakes, lagoons and reservoirs, each with its own character, hatch patterns and trout behaviour. This is where visiting anglers come to sight fish for large brown trout in clear water, wade shallow margins at dusk, and experience a style of dry fly fishing that simply does not exist anywhere else in Australia.
Our Central Highlands packages are built for anglers who want to properly explore this country. Whether you are here for a single day or five days on the water, the approach stays the same. We read the conditions, find the fish, and fish them well. Days vary with season, wind and where the trout are showing, and that flexibility is exactly what makes these trips work.
Packages depart from Hobart or Miena and include all guiding, transport to and from fishing locations, the use of our custom-built fly fishing boats, quality tackle and locally tied flies, and chef-prepared lunches featuring Tasmanian produce. Multi-day packages include lodge or cabin accommodation with breakfast, evening meals and drinks beside the fire.
The Central Highlands is not a single location, it is a landscape of options. Great Lake, Arthurs Lake, Little Pine Lagoon, Penstock Lagoon, Lake Sorell and dozens of smaller, less-visited waters all fish differently and respond to different conditions. On any given day the right choice of water comes down to wind direction, barometric pressure, temperature and what the trout are doing.
Brown trout in these lakes are wild, selective and visually aware. Sight fishing to cruising trout on calm mornings, casting to risers during a beetle or mayfly fall, and drifting open water looking for tailing fish in the shallows are the experiences that bring anglers back to the Highlands year after year.

Every day on the water is guided by Matt and the team, fully accredited and insured through TGALT, with detailed knowledge of the plateau and how it fishes across the season.
Transport from Hobart or Miena, quality tackle, locally tied flies and the use of our custom-built boats are all included. Multi-day trips add lodge or cabin accommodation with meals.

Matt's background as a qualified chef shows on the water. Lunches feature local Tasmanian produce, and multi-day evenings are spent over hearty meals and drinks beside the fire.
Stalker fly fishing rods, reels, breathable waders and wading boots are all provided if you need them, so you can travel light and simply turn up ready to fish.

Tasmanian angling licence is not included and is available through the Inland Fisheries Service.
