With three purpose-managed freshwater lakes holding self-sustaining populations of wild brown and rainbow trout, it offers an exclusive fishing experience you simply won't find on public water.
Over three days of guided fishing, you will work the lakes with experienced local guides who know every bay, drop-off and cruising lane. The focus here is on dry fly and sight fishing, with spectacular hatches of Red Spinners, Blue Damsels and midges drawing trout to the surface throughout the season. Fish average around 3 pounds, with genuine trophy fish available.
With pickup and drop-off from Hobart available, four nights of on-site accommodation, all meals catered and every detail handled, you can focus entirely on the fishing and the wider Currawong experience.
Currawong offers something that is genuinely difficult to find elsewhere, clear water, wild fish, reliable hatches and the kind of solitude that is increasingly hard to come by on public water during peak season. The three lakes are connected and can be read as a single system, with trout moving between sections depending on conditions, hatch activity and time of day.
The fishery rewards careful observation. Trout at Currawong are well-conditioned and selective. They respond well to dry fly, and the clear water makes polarised and sight fishing very productive in the right conditions. Morning midge hatches, afternoon beetle and ant activity through summer, and reliable sedge hatches in autumn all provide opportunities to fish trout feeding at the surface with appropriate patterns.
"Currawong is a fishery you can read properly because you have the time and the space to do it. On a public lake there is always pressure, other boats, other anglers, fish that have seen too many flies. At Currawong the fish are more open to being approached carefully. If you put in the effort to observe before you cast, the rewards are there." - Matt, Trout Tales Tasmania
